10.31.12 It is hard to accept the full extent of the devastation. Seaside Heights has been changed forever. Casino Pier, which a friend of ours ran the fishing concession on, lost his business when the pier was washed away with the amusment park and boardwalk. The island was cut in half on Long Beach Island, the dunes washed away and the entire island is under water. Every marina is just a smashed up pile of boats and rubble. Our friend Anna escaped just in time but don't know about Dick Jeffries or Richard Plunkett.
10.30.12 Connections down during storm. Whiting was spared but Tuckerton was smashed. Mark's house flooded badly, everything soaked, total loss. Joan's car ruined too. Trees on wires and houses everywhere. Mt. Misery is miserable in the dark. Trees on wires. Annmarie slept on bags of rice, in the dark, in a warehouse at the prison. LBI is complete disaster.
10.28.12 The strongest storm in history and Toopine is going to be dead center in the middle of the 1,000 mile wide path of destruction. Annmarie, naturally, has to travel in it. Her gang (BOP) is running the largest Federal prison in the country and there is no staying home. Managing at a huge prison in a hurricane- good luck Burnz.
It's the calm before the...Some thinking from weatherfolks:--
This will be the worst storm in history.
Possibly true, at least for some.
There are three weather factors that will make this storm so potent (compared to the Perfect Storm since that's a well-known example of an intense hybrid storm):
The strength and energy being added to "Frankenstorm" from Hurricane Sandy is much more intense than the tropical energy that was added to the Perfect Storm in 1991. The tropical energy is an extremely important factor in the intensity of the storm.
The strength of the non-tropical storm moving into Frankenstorm is also more intense than with the Perfect Storm.
Frankenstorm will make a direct landfall in a highly populated portion of the United States, which intensifies the danger to lives and property.
For these reasons, Frankenstorm has the potential to be the strongest storm in recorded weather history to affect the areas where it hits most directly. That fact cannot be emphasized enough.
Gads! The electric is going to go for sure. The cable is on and off already, meaning Toopine might be off the air for days- what will the world do without our calm considerations? Table break (no 305):
10.27.12 Battening down the hatches with the models pointing straight at us. This is going to be exciting.
10.26.12 I remember a huge storm that destroyed Long Beach Island, cutting it in two at Harvey Cedars. It wasn't even a hurricane. It is still known as 'The March Storm'. Everyone is poopooing this present approaching monster having never met one. 1962:
10.25.12 They are calling it "Frankenstorm" and it's on it's way.
10.24.12 F. Table 10.24.12: poison subtext: f at 96, h6, idiot standards manifestly so.
10.21.12 (h47) One hour from hell.
10.20.12 Chatsworth, a not-like-any-other-town sort of town, has a wonderful cranberrie festival. Great vibe in the mixed American quilt there today, surprising me a little..
10.19.12 (h4) Need some Table, (no.302):
10.16.12 (h140) Dog that I am.
10.14.12 What is all this?
10.8.12 House plants grew too much outdoors this summer. They have taken over. Pass the machete.
1,000 tables, the same table on a thousand different days, is the original concept for the Table series. Eventually flashing past in a 60 second video as a blur of imagery that relates the 'feel' of life at Toopine over the last few years. As I have said before; tables talk and can reveal much about those around the tables. With this in mind witness Table 10.8.12 (no. 299):
10.7.12 Cold rain today is knocking the leaves out of the black walnut and the basil is worried about the temps in the 30's tonight.
